Here are photos from the 2005 Buy Nothing Day Event: Folks gathered at a local coffee shop and then walked to the nearby popluar shopping center.
About 10 people showed up to sing anti-consumerism carols
and about half a dozen animal rights activists engage in some clever protesting against retailers of fur clothing.
At one point there were activists on all corners of the interesection, including a man and his son distributing religious literature.
There was a significant police presence as well.
Shoppers accepted the fliers and most positive reception came from parents with children in strollers. They engaged them discussion about their children's future which appeared to have an impact on their thinking. There were some local artisans set up on the sidewalk selling things like hand blown glass christmas ornaments.
